We're delighted to welcome Dr Nathan Woolley who has joined the School as a lecturer. He will work in the team delivering the MSc Chinese Studies, and will also serve as the Director of the Confucius Institute, contributing to the development of Chinese Studies more broadly at the University. His research interests include the social, political and religious history of imperial China, traditional Chinese historiography, and regional identity in East Asia.

Nathan has arrived from the Australian National University where he was postdoctoral fellow in the Australian Centre on China in the World, and lecturer in the School of Culture, History and Language in the College of Asia and the Pacific. During his time in Canberra, he also worked at the National Library of Australia as curator of a major exhibition held in collaboration with the National Library of China. In the more distant past, he worked in the fields of media and translation in Japan and South Korea.
