Rory O’Connor wins global suicide prevention award

Rory O’Connor was awarded the prestigious Louis I Dublin Award by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), “a lifetime achievement award for outstanding services/contributions to the field of suicide prevention as evidenced by leadership, devotion, and creativity” in Las Vegas last month.

"His advocacy, collaboration with voluntary organizations, and pioneering work on initiatives have made a lasting impact on suicide prevention efforts worldwide. His remarkable achievements speak volumes about his dedication and make him an outstanding choice for the Dublin Award."
The citation continues: “Professor Rory O'Connor is the Chair in Health Psychology (Mental Health & Wellbeing) at the University of Glasgow. O’Connor has made exceptional contributions to suicide research and prevention spanning over three decades. With over 250 publications in leading international journals and an impressive citation record, Professor O'Connor is a world authority in understanding and preventing suicide. His groundbreaking Integrated Motivational-Volitional Model of Suicidal Behavior has significantly influenced suicide prevention policy and practice globally. As President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and past President of the International Academy of Suicide Research, he has demonstrated remarkable leadership in the field. Professor O'Connor's dedication extends to public engagement, training, and mentoring the next generation of researchers. His influential book, "When It Is Darkest," has garnered widespread acclaim and has been translated into multiple languages.”
