The John Smith Centre is pleased to announce the launch of their latest development programme

The John Smith Centre, working to inspire and empower new and diverse voices to engage with and enter British politics, have launched their latest development programme, the Mayoral Internship Programme.

This programme offers a University of Glasgow student (3rd or 4th year undergraduate) a unique opportunity to gain professional public service experience in a local government setting and this year the programme takes place in Greater Manchester. The successful applicant will work closely with Andy Burnham and his Mayoral Office staff, contributing to the operations of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).

Throughout the two-week placement, the successful applicant will be working across the different policy teams at the GMCA, attending events and meetings, and shadowing the Mayor, gaining a broad understanding of the day-to-day work of the Mayoral Combined Authority. It is designed to introduce students to opportunities that exist in local government, and provide a practical professional development experience in a role in public service.

For further information about the programme, or if you are a current University of Glasgow student and are interested in applying, visit the John Smith Centre website.
