Environmental Science & Sustainability
Our Environmental Science & Sustainability programme places field work and practical experience at its core. Our Dumfries Campus is located close to a range of natural resources, unique fieldwork environments and placement providers: a diverse outdoor laboratory only minutes from the classroom.
This programme is accredited by the Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE – pronounced seed), the education committee of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES). CEDHE is the collective voice of the environmental sciences academic community and serves to enhance the quality of environmental education worldwide. A programme accredited by CEDHE is assured to meet high standards, contain a strong component of practical, field and theoretical activities, and has excellent opportunities for training, work experience and links to the professional environmental sector. Students enrolled on CEDHE accredited programmes can apply for free Student Membership of the IES and for a fast-track route to membership once they graduate, starting them on a route towards becoming a Chartered Environmentalist or Chartered Scientist.

Consultancy and Management
- Sustainability Officer / Corporate Responsibility Making sure businesses, organisations or coorporations work and behave in an ethical, sustainable, or environementally consious way.
- Project Manager Plan tasks and organise people and resources to complete work projects on time and on budget.
- Environmental / Eco Consultant Advise on sustainability, including waste management, recycling, flood risk and the effects of climate change.
- Recycling Engagement Officer Run local recycling schemes and promote recycling in the community.
- Countryside/Conservation Officer Manage, protect and improve the rural environment.
Science and Research
- Ecologist Study the relationship between plants, animals and the environment.
- Climate Scientist / Climatologist Study changes in the Earth's climate over time and how they might affect the planet in the future.
- Information Scientist Manage an organisation's information resources and make sure it's all available.
