BDS Undergraduate Conference

The BDS Undergraduate Conference was held at the University of Glasgow’s prestigious Wolfson Medical School Building on the 19th and 20th of March 2016. Led by Abdulwahab Aslam-Pervez, the organising committee provided free admission for over 300 undergraduate students to the 2-day conference. This included revision presentations, mock-practical sessions, a mock exam and also free lunch! 10 companies and organisations took part in the trade exhibition providing advice and support to delegates. The energetic environment attracted students from across the UK and Europe to consolidate their learning in preparation for exams.

The conference created a platform encouraging students to support one another and to learn collaboratively under the guidance of senior students. Dental students delivered presentations on various topics; creating a forum of interactive learning in a supportive and relaxed environment. The revision materials were fully quality assured and included a wide array of topics including Orthodontics, Paediatrics, Human Diseases, Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery, to name a few. The committee strived to provide a well-supported, structured and friendly environment in which students could discuss and explore topics to consolidate their learning.

The conference was a success and feedback was conclusive that students valued the experience and were eager to register for next year. The aim for next year is to open the event to more dental students and enhance learning through further teaching modalities.
