In April 2024, the MSc Global Mental Health Team (Dr Dimitar Karadzhov, Dr Laura Sharp, Mr George Hatton and Dr Julie Langan Martin) and Careers Service (Ms Fiona Stubbs) presented their employability enhancement project at the Advance HE Employability Symposium 2024 in Leeds. The Symposium spotlighted good practice in promoting employability, enterprise and entrepreneurship using a wide variety of approaches - including mentorship, industry partnerships, inclusive education, interdisciplinary learning, portfolios and student leadership.

Our project analysed the job market, engaged alumni and experts, developed a novel discipline-specific employability framework for the field of global mental health, and methodically embedded transferable skills awareness activities within the core online teaching. The project was praised for its boldness, creativity and transferability. Above all, it inspired fruitful conversations within the MSc Global Mental Health Team about how our teaching relates to the contemporary job market, and has given rise to new employability initiatives.
