UofG collaborates to develop Air Pollution Monitoring Systems in China

17th August 2017 - Dr Hadi Heidari secures funding from National Natural Science Foundation of China

A General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grant from the Chinese government will support an international research collaboration in magnetoelectronics between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China (UESTC).

The project “Portable Hall nano-Sensor Core Chip Development for Air Quality Monitoring Application” will bring a step change in the scientific understanding about fundamental issues related to sensors and electronics for environmental monitoring development and at the same time advance research in air pollution monitoring by providing new enabling technology. With strategic industrial participants involved in the development and application stages of proposed research, the network will also bridge the gap between innovation and utilization.

This project will develop a robust magnetoelectronic microsystem using Hall-effect magnetic sensors with low-power electronics integrated on same substrates. The microsystem will capture the magnetic nanoparticles.

This project is a first step towards establishing a long-term relationship between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronics Science and Technology of China (UESTC).

Dr Hua Fan from School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics at the UESTC and Professor Hadi Heidari, Lecturer at the School of Engineering at University of Glasgow, will lead this international collaboration.
