On Feb 28 the School hosted a memorial event to remember Professor Srabani Maitra, who passed away in December 2023.

We were privileged to be joined by in the Bute Hall by colleagues from the School of Education, the College of Social Sciences, the University of Glasgow and beyond. The event was also streamed online to an international audience of Srabani's relatives, friends, and former colleagues.

The event began with welcomes from Professor Kristinn Hermannsson, Head of School of Education, and Mary Lappin, Deputy Head of School of Education, followed by a moving reflection on Srabani's life and work from Professor Bonnie Slade.

Srabani was a lover of poetry, and the ceremony featured several readings. Professor Evelyn Arizpe read 'Remember' by Christina Rossetti, and Dr Maureen Farrell read 'Still' by Char March. Professor Alison Phipps delivered a reading of 'Clippings', a poem commissioned by Srabani and written by UNESCO Rila Artist in Residence Tawona Sitholé.

Further contributions were heard from Professor Sara Carter, VP & Head of College of Social Sciences, as well as School colleagues Professor Margery McMahon, Professor Simon McGrath, and Professor Sinéad Gormally.

Colleagues who wish to watch any part of the ceremony can view the recording here.
