SCMH researchers complete 23 mile Kiltwalk!

Kiltwalk

On the 30th April, ten of our researchers walked the 23-mile Mighty Stride from Glasgow Green to Balloch, Loch Lomond. Starting at 9.30am, Dr Josie Fullerton, Dr Martin McBride, Caitlin Cosgrove, Lara Birch, Eleanor Dickson-Murray, Dr Eline Huethorst, Dr Erin Boland, Antonyia Kalphov, Dr Alexandra Riddell, & Manshi Zhou lined up at the starting line. Some of the walkers were kitted out with snacks, pain killers, toilet roll and plasters – others just rocked up with a water bottle and a free coffee that they collected on their way in (…Caitlin…).

The BHF researchers fired through the first 10-miles, with good chat and high spirits encouraging them along their way! The weather wasn’t completely on their side, but lucky for Dr Martin McBride, trusty PhD student Manshi never failed hold an umbrella over his head! By the 17th mile, the BHF researchers were flagging a bit, but the BHF stand in Dumbarton cheered them up taking a few photos with Mr Hearty and an interview to highlight how essential fundraising for cardiovascular disease is. Towards the end of the Mighty Stride some of the researchers were flagging, while others were accused of being too cheery and nearly ended up in the Clyde… but the team stuck together and ensured they all crossed the finish line together.

The BHF researchers raised over £1,600 – which also includes the wonderful fundraising from the bake sale Manshi and Dr Caglar Gok arranged for the Early Career Researcher Symposium on the 25th April in the Advanced Research Centre. The team are hugely grateful for all the kind donations and supportive messages they received along the way! The JustGiving page is still open for donations if you wish to donate!
