Please come along and find out who this years winners are. The final standings will be revealed and there are multiple prizes to be given out.

Athena swan Coffee Catch up

Thursday 18th July at 10.30am in C222 of BHF GCRC

In response to the recent culture survey and as a means of reconnecting again and connecting with new colleagues who have recently joined the SCMH, we are going to be holding a couple of coffee catch-up events throughout the year.

All staff and students are invited and encouraged to attend for a blether and a catch-up over tea/coffee (biscuits will also be provided!).  This is an informal gathering where we just want to give people an opportunity to meet in person and see both familiar and new faces.

We hope to see you there!

Walk Across the World Walking Challenge 2024

Get ready for the return of the much-anticipated Athena Swan summer social event:

Walk Across the World’ Please join us for our opening ceremony launch event on Thursday 30th May at 10:30am in C222 of the BHF GCRC.

This year we have updated our rules and changed the game from counting steps to counting points, enabling us to include more forms of exercise and giving everyone a chance to participate even if walking is not their preferred activity.

But do not fret, much of the challenge remains the same, including the opportunity to double your points, to track your progress on our map, and of course to participate in our social events and walks.

Thanks to the funding the Walking Challenge organizers received from MVLS College Equality Diversity and Inclusion (CEDI} Fund, we are now able to offer a limited number of pedometers to those who would like to participate but are unable to track their steps through smart watches or phones etc. These pedometers are available to borrow for the challenge, but we would appreciate their return so we can use them again for next year.

As part of the challenge, there will be a weekly SCMH walking group lead by one of our enthusiastic committee members, which all are welcome to join. Obviously, we have no control over the Glasgow weather, but we hope it will be kind to us again this year!

Last year our fantastic participants clocked up many thousands of miles, with our winner Linda Hood taking 845,464 steps in June (longer than the length of Scotland!) and Team Alfie hitting 3,216,082 steps to win our team prize.

The Walking Challenge team are working hard behind the scenes preparing for this year’s challenge, including securing top prizes for our winners! While our challenge was a great success last year, we think this year will be even better! Don’t miss out, join the fun!
