The Scottish Centre for War Studies at the University of Glasgow, marked the 15th anniversary of its foundation, by hosting a major international event to discuss the war in Afghanistan. On 15/16 March 2010, we brought together soldiers, scholars, diplomats and journalists from around the world to examine how the conflict in Afghanistan has developed to this point, and how it is likely to develop in the future. After President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Gordon Brown had opted for a surge of almost 40,000 troops to try and force a decisive result in Afghanistan, the war had reached a tipping point.
