SUERC is proud to announce that we have received an Athena SWAN Bronze Award in 2019. Advance HE’s Athena SWAN Charter encourages and recognises commitment to gender equality in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment, as well as the arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL). The charter covers all categories of academic staff, students, and those in professional and support roles. The charter recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women, for example, covering trans staff and students.

In winning a Bronze award, SUERC received official recognition of its commitment to progressing equality and diversity across all of our activities, under the guiding principles of the Athena SWAN charter, for example, the principle that academia cannot reach its full potential unless it can benefit from the talents of all.

SUERC commits to undertaking the actions outlined in our successful application, by adopting the Athena SWAN principles within our policies, practices, action plans and culture going forward.
