Director
Professor Gioia Falcone
Gioia holds the Rankine Chair of Energy Engineering. She is the Head of the Energy and Sustainability Research Group, Associate Director of the Centre for Sustainable Solutions and member of the University's Sustainability Working Group. She champions the Sustainable Net-Zero challenge in engineering and beyond. She is particularly interested in sustainable energy solutions that bring together people, places and the environments. Given her blend of international industry, research and teaching experience, she has an interest in a variety of engineering problems across the field of energy and sustainability.
Associate Director
Professor David Flynn
David is Professor of Cyber Physical Systems, Head of the Autonomous Systems and Connectivity Research Division of the James Watt School of Engineering, and a member of the Energy and Sustainability Research Group, as well as the Communication, Sensing and Imaging Group. He pioneers the design, integration and optimisation of Cyber Physical Systems aligned to discovery and challenge led research for the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
Centre Coordinators
Claire Johnston and Anna Doyle (job share)
Claire and Anna joined the Centre in 2024 as Centre Coordinators having worked at the University since 2019. They also manage the innovative Software Engineering Graduate Apprenticeship Programme delivering cross-sectorial partnerships with industry. They are excited to continue their job-sharing role supporting the Centre for Sustainable Energy.

Research and Business Development Manager
Lynne McCorriston
Lynne McCorriston is a Research and Business Development Manager for the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Glasgow. She supports researchers across the College to develop funding applications and engage with external partners. The College provides support and training for early career staff across grant writing, industrial engagement and career development. Lynne also works to link industrial contacts to staff across Science and Engineering who can help address challenges in their organizations; she can help to provide access to facilities and identify funding to support new research collaborations.
Interdisciplinary Research Development Manager
Suzannah Turner
Suzannah joined the University of Glasgow in February 2024 in a new interdisciplinary role that bridges Science & Engineering, and Social Sciences. Sustainable energy is a research theme that brings together a wealth of expertise across the University, making the Centre a natural focal point for research development activities under her remit. Recognizing that interdisciplinary collaboration is key to ensuring energy is accessible, equitable and sustainable, Suzannah is particularly keen to support capacity-building and grant funding opportunities in this space.
Industry Engagement Manager
Anne-Mari Gillespie
Anne-Mari is an Industry Engagement Manager within the College of Science and Engineering at University of Glasgow. Her remit includes promoting collaboration between industry and academia in projects relating to Energy, Transport, Sustainability and Net Zero. Prior to her current role, she worked over 16 years in Finance Operations for a large energy company. Anne-Mari has a BSc (hons) degree in Renewable and Environmental Technologies.
