Springburn Unity Network at The ARC

Various dates in June

This June, Springburn Unity Network will bring their group’s work from the north east to the University of Glasgow.

Glasgow-based artist Mandy McIntosh has been working with Springburn Unity Network (SUN) since December 2023, supporting a community engagement strand of activity within Glasgow. This project has been realised through the IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund alongside the commissioning of new work by artist Cathy Wilkes at the Hunterian Art Gallery. Mandy, SUN and Cathy all have links to Springburn through life and work.

Springburn Unity Network’s aims as a charity are to tackle social isolation in this area of the city, with a specific peer-led focus on migrants. They seek to build supportive relationships between all people in Springburn by overcoming barriers to friendship. Mandy and the charity have been working together in collaboration to secure sustainable space for this vital work, building creativity into the expression of the group.

Over the next few weeks, SUN will bring their practice from Springburn to the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre (ARC). On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June, SUN will conduct their language classes and their led cycle rides as well as making space for socialising, meeting other groups, singing and sharing their work. From Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 June, their artwork will be displayed in the ARC foyer.

All welcome to drop in, meet the group and take part in activities.
