Short Description
This course builds on text-reading skills acquired at level two and proceeds to more detailed critical investigation of texts, along with more advanced language skills. This course provides a bridge to Honours for those who have entered directly into level two Greek and proceeded satisfactorily.

20 * 1 hour lectures and 32*1 hour seminars (language based) as scheduled in MyCampus. This is one of the honours options in Greek and may not run every year. The options that are running this year are available on MyCampus.
Requirements of Entry
"A minimum of one B3 in either Greek 2A or Greek 2B (GREEK2001 and GREEK2002), with a minimum of C3 in the other level two course; or at the discretion of the Head of Subject."

Course Aims
This course aims to:
■ Introduce detailed study of texts in the Greek language
■ Familiarise students with a range of genres and their convention and idioms
■ Develop essay-writing and commentary skills in relation to Greek texts
■ Deepen acquaintance with the Greek language and provide strategies for approaching unfamiliar texts in Greek
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Translate prepared Greek texts from a range of genres into English, with due regard to idiom and register
■ Identify literary, historical and cultural points in the text and comment insightfully upon them
■ Develop an extended critical argument about two or more texts in essay form
■ Translate from texts that have not been prepared with due regard to idiom and register
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
