Short Description
This course is an extended piece of independent work in which students develop and present a solution that makes use of technology to solve a defined problem or meet a human need.

7 hours of classes in semester 1 and 2 hours of classes in semester 2.
Requirements of Entry
Successful entry into year 4 of study on the Bachelor of Technological Education programme.

Assessment
The summative assessment is aggregated from:
The presentation of the project outcome (Report/Folio/Prototype/Model/appropriate media, or combination of formats, 80%),
An oral Examination on the method and outcome of the project (10%);
A grade awarded by the supervisor to reflect levels of performance across; student independence, project management, communication and interaction with supervisor and or clients (10%).

Course Aims
This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to undertake an extended piece of independent work in which students develop and present a solution that makes use of technology to solve a defined problem or meet a human need. Students must extend their learning, apply the knowledge, understanding and skills they have developed as an emerging technologist, and respond creatively to a problem brief or work with a client in solving a contextualised problem.
This course aims to contribute to the development of graduate attributes such as the capacity to be: investigative, an independent and critical thinker, resourceful and responsible, an effective communicator, confident, adaptable, collaborative, ethically and socially aware and to be a reflective learner.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
Manage a project from the stage of problem definition to viable solution;
Demonstrate resourcefulness, adaptability and confidence in managing a significant project;
Differentiate and source information and make use of appropriate research in investigating and developing solutions;
Use and extend their specialist knowledge to generate, evaluate and refine a solution to a contextualised problem;
Communicate and present, to a high standard, in an appropriate range of formats and media, a solution to a contextualised problem;
Critically evaluate a solution and identify future development directions or improvements;
Apply ethically and social considerations in the identification of problems and the application of technology;
Collaborate and work effectively and responsibly with others in different contexts and roles.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Satisfactory completion of project and satisfactory completion of specified oral examination.
