Students are assessed on their ability to demonstrate the knowledge, understanding and skills outlined above in the course of a practical school experience placement.

Course Aims
School Experience Placement in secondary school has a particular focus on the role of assessment in teaching and learning in the secondary school.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
Understand and apply the principles of assessment, recording, reporting and classroom management
Demonstrate communication skills
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning, along with relevant areas of school curricular documents and their implementation in the classroom
Plan and prepare lessons
Reflect on improving practice
Acquire a broad and critical understanding of the principal features of the education system, educational policy and practice
Draw on relevant principles, perspectives and theories to inform professional values and practices
Use the results of assessment to evaluate and improve teaching and to improve standards of attainment
Value themselves as growing professionals by taking responsibility for their professional learning and development
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Satisfactory attendance at placement (90% minimum, as per GTCS requirements); satisfactory completion of all school based tasks including school experience record; satisfactory reports from school partners and visiting tutors.
