Short Description
Investigation into current issues which affect childhood practice relating to the Children and Young People Act.
Timetable
Will be delivered through 2 input days plus 1 self-study day during Summer however self-study booklet and tasks will be available on Moodle from January for students to engage with.

Assessment
Students will present key arguments relating to a key issue or debate which is contemporaneous within Childhood Practice related to the Children and Young People's Act (2014). This will provide a starting point for the assignment and demonstrate a critical, questioning perspective on the current issue in relation to Childhood Practice. 20%
Students should provide an assignment which discusses key issues and debates within the Scottish context supported by evidence from current practice and theory. There should be evidence that they have located information from a wide variety of sources including research-based materials. (1,500 words) 80%
Students are required to pass one out of two parts of this course assessment.
Course Aims
The course aims to:
encourage a critical understanding of a self-selected current issue in Childhood Practice
enable learners to analyse the selected issue and construct a coherent and balanced debate
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
identify a current issue in Childhood Practice and provide evidence of a range of recent debate on an issue relating to the implementation of the Children and Young People's Act (Scotland) 2014
demonstrate a critical, questioning perspective on their chosen issue in relation to Childhood Practice
provide a coherent argument supported by evidence from current practice and theory
locate information from a wide variety of sources including research-based materials
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
100% attendance of 2 formal contact days.
Participation in formative assessment task.
Submission of both the summative and formative assessment tasks.
