There is an energetic discussion about place-based approaches to research happening at the moment.

Within the work of the Challenges in Changing Cities theme, we understand “place”, and towns and cities, in particular, as a lens for how people and systems interact in a vast range of areas, including heritage, public services, communications, climate change, public health, water or food resources, and economic policy. This understanding of place brings us into this discussion as we think about how places and communities might thrive when local contexts and perspectives are considered.

Does your research (ongoing or aspirational) involve these topics?

If so, we would love you to join us at this session to:

  • Discuss your plans or dream research project with colleagues from different disciplines and with differing perspectives.
  • Identify where there is scope for collaboration.
  • Explore potential funding opportunities to help you do the research you want to do.

For those who would like to do do, there will be an opportunity to present a short informal pitch outlining your future research plans, or summarising a recent/ ongoing project. Please tick the relevant box when registering.

We know the last two years have been incredibly challenging and isolating. This event is designed to help bring us together and support research (of any scale) that touches on towns, cities, and the people who live there.

This event will run **in person** from 10:00 – 13:00 on Monday, 16th May, ending with an informal networking session.

St Andrews Building, room 234.

This event is open to all staff across the College of Social Sciences.
