Emma Wisniewski-Barker a PhD student in the Optics Group won Third Prize in SET for Britain, a poster competition held in the Houses of Parliament. Her work "Slow Light and Slow Darkness:  the world through a spinning window" uses intense green lasers and ruby windows to slow light to walking pace.  Storing images in this way has application to new forms of sensing and information processing. Communicating esoteric concepts is not easy, but Emma's poster was commended on clarity it bought to these otherwise complicated phenomena.
